The Belfast Sliders entered the Softball Ulster Start of Season Blitz on Saturday 13th April 2019. This tournament was one of the best attended for the Sliders, with Captain Marian joined by Vice Captain Jonny and regular Sliders William, Tim, Dan, Christina, Paul, John, Andrew, Kirsty, Jay, Emma, Michal, Laura and Gregg, along with relative newcomers Casey and Lindsay.
The day started off well, with the Sliders winning their first four games agains the Bangor Bucs, Belfast Angels, Sons of Pitch and Belfast Cubs. Unfortunately their final game in the round-robin stage was lost out to Belfast Softball Club. The Sliders came second overall in the round robin stages, beating the Sons of Pitches but losing out on the top spot to Belfast Softball Club.
The semi-final game was played once again against the Sons of Pitches, with the Sliders losing out this time to the Dublin team. The day finished with the Belfast Angels forfeiting, leading to the Sliders taking third place overall in the tournament. Although a shame not to win the day, the Sliders had a great time at Rathmore and look forward to the next tournament on the 2019 calendar: the Brian Walshe Cup in Dublin on 27th April!
