Sliders made the trip to Lisburn to play their fir Sliders made the trip to Lisburn to play their first ever match at Wallace Park against the Hawks on a hot and heavy day. ☀️🦅Things started slowly as Sliders blanked in the first with only 1 hit out of 4 at the top of the order and got only 1 in the second as the bats struggled. It wasn’t much better in defence. The infield struggled with the hard uneven bounce and a number of fumbles along with a few grass finders in the outfield let Hawks score 1 and 4 in the first 2 innings. Batting improved in the 3rd with 2 runs which the Hawks outdid with 3 leaving the score 8-3. The turning point came in the 4th as the Sliders bats started firing. 6 runs were driven in ended with a Scott 3RBI home run. 💪 The defence tightened up with some big double plays and even outfield drops led to outs on 2. Hawks blanked the 4th as Sliders took the lead for the first time 9-8. Sliders experience started to show taking advantage of a tiring pitcher with a combination of walks and base hits keeping the score ticking over. 9 were added in the last 2 innings only conceding 6 with the final score 23-14. It was a great second half performance by Sliders who shook off a difficult and nervy start to finish strongly. On Monday Sliders hosted the Brawlers, for not 1 b On Monday Sliders hosted the Brawlers, for not 1 but (nearly) 2 matches! First up was the completion of the rained off fixture from May. In similar conditions to the last match we resumed at 16-5 (to Brawlers) with Camryn leading off the batting. A great start saw Camryn and Caran score triples with Scott scoring his first HR. Unfortunately the gap was too big to close and Brawlers took with win with 25-10 The weather improved for the second game which proved to be a much tighter affair. Brawlers were first up and a HR by Tom saw 3 in. Michal dominated the last 2 outs with some big catches. Ciaran followed Tims double by getting him home meaning a slow start for the Sliders. It remained this tight until the 4th with neither team giving much away in defence.Brawlers scored 1 each in the 2nd and 3rd as their usually big hitters misfired and Sliders made some smart catches. Michal had an amazing HR to RF which also brought home Camryn. Bottom of 3 and HR by Ciaran and Casey kept the score at 5 all. Next Brawlers loaded the bases for a monster grand slam HR to add 4 to the score on 2 outs. Smart base running from top of the O for Sliders got Tim home. Kirsty moved the runners round before Casey brought the rest home. That made it 9-8. Brawlers added another 4 in the 5th as they started to find some gaps. This is when Sliders bats dried up…They were picked off by the Brawlers infield without a score. Brawlers got 1 in the 6th with the highlight of Ciaran striking out Sean. The lowlight was Emma tearing her calf on the turn for a fly ball. Understandably Sliders went a bit flat in the field as concern turned to the sidelines. Ciaran added another solo home run but it wasn’t enough to put pressure on the Brawlers. Despite a tag on Tom at home, Brawlers ran in another 4 in the final inning with Brawlers taking the win 18-9. We wish Emma a speedy recovery and next up is the Bucs on 27th July! (Photo from CT cup as again we forgot to take one!)

Sliders welcomed the Bangor Buccaneers to Hydebank Sliders welcomed the Bangor Buccaneers to Hydebank for what proved to be a match of 2 halves. Sliders started solidly conceding 1 in the first before scoring 3 of their own, Jun getting the first home run of the night. The Buccs were shut out for the next 3 innings whilst Sliders slowly accumulated runs with a combination of big hits and aggressive running. 5 were scored in the second including a Ciaran home run and 3 in the third. At the bottom of the 4th Sliders got a slightly confused triple play and the score was 12-1 and things were looking comfortable. Then in the 5th the Buccs rallied. Hits started to find grass and there were a couple of agonizingly close catch attempts in the outfield as 7 ran in. Sliders followed this with a blank and things got nervy. A couple of good plays on 3rd by Scott helped hold the Buccs to 2 in the 6th and solo homeruns by Ciaran and Claire and a triple by Jun took the score to 15-10 to Sliders at the top of the 7. Two outs followed for 1 run including a strike-out by Ciaran but the third out just wouldn’t follow. A couple of walks and a few fumbles let 5 runners in before the innings ended with controversy and the game tied. Dan led off as the winning run and hit into the ground making it to first. Marian drove him to second before he was tightly called out on 3 by a play from the Buccs shortstop. A second out followed before Jun hit Marian to third and an overthrow to 2 let her home to win the game. Sliders win 16-15. A lot to be positive about in the performance in particular the team holding their nerve when it got tense, some outstanding 3rd base play by Michal and Scott and some big hits throughout.
