The Belfast Sliders recently travelled to Dublin City University to take part in the Dublin Indoor Softball Tournament (DIST). In total eight Sliders (Marian, Laura, Jay, Emma, Andrew, Tim, Dan and Michal), plus newcomer Casey made the early start trip to Dublin to play against eleven other teams in the hopes of winning the coveted prize of the DIST hoodies.
The day was a steep learning curve for the Sliders, as four of the team had never played indoor rules before (think of softball mixed with circuit training on steroids) and the other five of the team hadn’t played in five years. They lost their first game, but rallied round to win their second, only to lose the third, fourth and fifth games to superior Dublin teams. A rally in the 9th/10th playoff meant that the Sliders won their final game and walked away in 9th place overall.
Even though we didn’t win, the team had a fantastic time in Dublin and burnt more than a few calories gained when Andrew’s cake was brought out at lunch time! We look forward to the next indoor tournament in January 2019!
